The owner of this 1920s West Linn Cottage had wanted to renovate the Kitchen when she purchased it 16 years ago. Rio Renovation earned her trust, turning that dream into reality in 2010. Thats true patience! The existing space was a patchwork of styles and layers from many previous renovation attempts. The challenge was to unify the space, return it to the period, maintain an original element, add function, and employ high-quality finishes throughout. The owner dubbed it Cottage/Commercial. Rio Renovation met the challenge with a zoned approach, a unified design, and active Owner participation.
Demolition was extensive, leaving only one existing ceiling and a bank of upper cabinets. The space was re-wired, re-plumbed, and the floors required extensive leveling. The exterior walls received soy-based, spray- foam insulation. Every room in the home received something new; a high efficiency HVAC system, supply ducts to the second floor, basement windows, electrical outlets, door hardware, and the all-important fresh coat of paint.
Marmolium floors, bead-board walls, flush-inset cabinetry, and chrome & glass hardware and light fixtures all mimic the period. The existing upper cabinets were re-fitted with new interior panels, doors, and decorative elements. Many organizers are hidden within the cabinetry, and an eight foot section of stainless countertop sits between adjoining granite counters reminding the owner of her days in Floral Design. The posts and beam are finish woodwork covering structural elements. Seamless in transition, the new space feels as if it were always there. With timeless quality and attention to detail, this renovation truly is the Owners dream.
